Victory for Freedom or Defeat for Security?

"It was never the intent of the Framers to give the President such unfettered control, particularly where his actions blatantly disregard the parameters clearly enumerated in the Bill of Rights."

-- U.S. District Court Judge Anna Diggs Taylor, in a ruling that strikes down the National Security Agency's warrantless domestic spying program.

"I would say that those who herald this decision simply do not understand the nature of the world in which we live. I strongly disagree with this decision."

-- George W. Bush, President of the United States of America

Is the decision against the NSA monitoring the phone calls and emails of millions of Americans without a warrant a victory for freedom of speech or a defeat for the security of the homeland?  Is it good to stop warrantless spying to preserve freedom, or to allow spying without a warrant to keep America safe?

Feel free to post your opinions on the issue and the articles at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060819/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush and http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/18/bush.ap.

I guess President Dubya thinks the world we live in is a world where the president who swears to uphold the constitution can ignore it. Hail Dubya!

Come on, how can any American believe that the president has a license to violate the Constition and people's basic rights? I don't want them spying on me! Here's a quote for ya.

"The only people I trust to spy on me all the time are God and Santa Claus. And I'm not too sure about God." -- Reverend Loveshade

I will refrain from making my own comments on this issue, at least for right now. But here's the view of a fellow Republican of George W. Bush.

"U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., says President Bush exceeded his authority by authorizing domestic National Security Agency wiretaps without court warrants." http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?StoryID=20060820-125038-7580r

I think its both.

That's all we need is a corrupt government spying on us all the time because they feel like it. Wasn't that 1984?

It's a victory for terrorists! Who would you rather have spying on you, your government or terrorists?

I don't want anybody spying on me!

You can't be totally free and be totally secure both. And you can't ever be totally secure. So I vote for freedom.

Its a defeat for Freedom. Kick the bum out! Hope the Demos win today! VOTE DEMOCRAT!
