Same-Sex Marriage in Connecticut and Iowa

Gay marriage image from the state of California Connecticut is set to become the fourth U. S. state (if you don't count California) to legally recognize same-sex marriage.

A spokesperson for Gov. M. Jodi Rell said she will sign it into law.  The state house and senate already approved the proposed law, which came after the state supreme court voted 4-3 that marriage could not be restricted by gender.

The state will join Massachusetts, Vermont and Iowa as the fourth state to recognize same-sex or gay marriage.  The gender discrimination had been rejected by the court in California, only to be overruled by the voters who changed the state constitution.

Same sex couples in Iowa have begun tying the knot.  Some of these lesbians and gay men have been couples for years, but not recognized as married.  But if relatively open-minded California reversed same-sex marriage, how long will it take voters to outlaw it in heartland Iowa?

Marriage is still defined in the United States as being between one person and another, usually restricted to one man and one woman.  But the changing definition leaves another question.  How long will it be before biblical fundamentalists push for biblical marriage, that between one man and multiple wives?

Have I ever posted on your site? I don't remember.

I think we should have Biblical Marriage. I could use 4 or 5 wives. Or maybe 7, one for each night of the week. No, 6, so I can have a night off. And if I want a divorce, I just say "We're divorced."

This is great. Lets see it spread through all America!

What man would want to marry another man? Kissing when you both have beards? Itchy!

The Bible does not say man is supposed to have 4 or 5 wives. God created Adam and Eve, one man and one woman. That was HIS perfect plan. After Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit, they were cast out of the Garden of Eden. Men were then living in sin. It was when they were living in sin that they had many wives. That was not God's plan and is not God's plan. The New Testament says a man should be the husband of one wife. Not of a harem and not of another man.

I think that Same Sex marriage is a non-issue. Christians should be helping the poor and homeless. Instead they are focused on this issue, banning ANY contraceptive measures, and banning abortions. What happens if the Child dies of hypothermia or starvation? Well thats God's will. Some Fundamentalists feel that if you are poor it is because they are morally deficient or lazy. These Christians believe that the quality of the soul depends on how much money you have. These Christians are the biggest hypocrites in the world. Thank God for same sex marraige.

I think that people should have more to worry about than who's marrying who. If two people love each other and they are willing to make a comittment that is a special thing. I wish them well. No I am not gay. I Think Christians should be feeding the poor and helping to heal the sick as the Bible says. There are some Christians who dispise the poor and homeless. They say that the homeless are morally deficient and lazy. I say those Christians are the biggest hypocrites.
Have a great day.

Christian Andy, thanks as always for your pithy comments. You're, ironically, one of our faithful regulars.

I agree the book of Genesis says Adam and Eve were joined as one man, one woman. But Genesis also says they didn't have jobs, didn't eat meat, and didn't wear clothes. If you're advocating nudism, total joblessness, and vegetarianism for humans and all animals, then I'll accept your one-man, one-woman statement.

Of course you have to ignore the great number of Biblical patriarchs who had more than one wife, among them Gideon, whom the Bible distribution group is named after, and King David, the "man after God's own heart."

And as for the one-man, one-woman bit in the New Testament, that refers to deacons of the seven churches being the husbands of one wife. It doesn't say it applies to anyone else.

But thanks for posting!

I do think nudism and vegetarianism are good for the soul, mind and body. But I don't opposed multiple marriage. An it harms done, do as thou wilt.

Not Necessarily no you haven't ever posted here. You still haven't.

I would never marry a man. But that doesn't mean my brother shouldn't. Or my sister.

Vernon u are so right. Jesus taught ppl to love each other. He didn't condemn ppl he thought were sinners he helped them. What he didn't like was religious hypocrits.

If America accepted Biblical marriage, fundamentalist Christians would be horrified. That's the last thing those hypocrits want.

Don't forget Biblical marriage includes incest. Abraham married his sister Sarah and God approved. HE approved it so much he created a miracle to make sure they'd have a child.
