Grandma Gets Arrested For Selling Goldfish to Minor
That's right; a sexagenarian was fined 1000 pounds and was forced to wear an electronic tag for selling a goldfish to a minor. Joan Higgins has been the owner of Major's Pet Foods in Sale, Greater Manchester, for many years and has never been in trouble with the law.
According to the United Kingdom's Animal Welfare Act, it is illegal to sell any pet to someone under the age of 16. Now both Joan and her son are criminals because they got caught in a sting operation. Yes, the 14-year-old boy was told to go to the store and buy a pet. This is clear entrapment.
I agree a little with the authorities that when you sell a goldfish to a 14 year old boy you most likely killed a goldfish. That is a shame, but what are you going to do? Throw them in jail? For a goldfish? What happened to this woman was a criminal act in itself. We really need to make everyone a criminal. We're on our way.

Those UKers are plum crazy. You know what most goldfish are sold for? To feed to bigger fish. They're going to die, just like that. Chomp. What next, they going to arrest people for feeding their oscars because the goldfish will die? Then we can't eat hamburger anymore? They want my burger, they can pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Welcome to the blog Vernon!
That is totally crazy. I believe in animal rights but getting arrested and being monitored for selling a goldfish? Kids can win those in games here. Im sorry but thats totally crazy.

I've disagreed with Vernon in the past, but on this I must agree. Selling a fish without parent permission doesn't seem good. But arresting someone and making them wear an electronic monitor for this seems seriously misguided.

Grandma got ran over by a goldfish,
just because she sold one to a tool,
you may say there's no such thing as stupid laws,
but if you think that makes sense you're a fool.

She shouldn't have gotten fined for that. She should have gotten the electric chair.

She got off too easy. To be fair, if she sold a goldfish to a 14-year-old boy, she should have been sold to a 14-year-old boy.

English law is getting stranger and stranger. They need to bring back the Magna Carta.

Those British are getting a little crazy with those laws there. I think they need to bring back tea time so it gives them something else to focus on.
