Order of the Pineapple 2018: Gypsie Skripto and Toby Bruno

It is time once again to announce the 2018 winners of the Order of the Pineapple. (This is only awarded once a year on January 18 aka Pat Pineapple Day).

The honorees for 2018 are: Gypsie Skripto and Toby Bruno.

Toby Bruno is a founding member of the Ĕk-sĕn-trĭks Cluborguild which began the Order of the Pineapple. As the group was beginning, Toby brought in the artists. A contributor to the Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia: The Tales of Shamlicht which talks about the OP, Toby is the first illustrator of OP mascot Pat Pineapple. (Some would say Toby created the mascot, but we all know Pat already existed).

Gypsie Skripto was a little girl when given the Discordian name Porky Pigsties by Discordianism co-founder Greg Hill. Gypsie contributed to Principia Discordia for Loompanics; Ek-sen-trik-kuh Discordia, Principia Harmonia, Intermittens, Five Finger Discord, and a number of websites. A hostess for Shamlicht Kids Club events, Gypsie is also a pagan high priestess.

The Order of the Pineapple is also called the DisOrder of the Pineapple and the Pineapple DisOrder, but it’s usually abbreviated O.P.  (The award has also been called Patus Pineappleus Bromeliadic and the winners The P.P. Bromeliadics or Bromedliaddicts). It honors those who have given extraordinary service to “the participatorial study of comedic attitudes and eccentric tendencies.”  The O.P. is awarded to very few people, those who are especially servicey.  It’s presented on only one day a year, January 18 CE, which is 18 Chaos of the Discordian calendar.  That date is recognized as Pat Pineapple Day.  Pat is the Mascot of the ECG and Patron Saint of the D D of the ECG.  It is absolutely required that members of the Order eat something containing or resembling pineapple on January 18–unless of course they don’t feel like it.

Congratulations to them both!

  1. I have the happy honor of knowing both of these winners. One thing they have in common that’s not mentioned is that they are both loving, caring people. Congratulations to them both!

  2. I am so very honored to receive this award. To be listed with such great people is overwhelming!

I really can’t take credit for being an original Discordian. Greg Hill nicknamed me Porky Pigsties when I was a little girl because I loved Porky Pig and playing in mud. And the interview for Loompanics was really Greg’s. I just suggested a couple things.

I did do the rest though, so thank you all so very much!

  3. It’s about time the discoverer of Pat Pineapple and the finder of the missing Greg Hill be honored! Congratulations to both of you!

  4. Congratulations! I know one of you but ur both kewl!

  5. Gooba-gobble, gooba-gobble, we accept them, we accept them. One of us, one of us. Gooba-gobble, gooba-gobble.

Congratulations and welcome to The Bromeliacs!

  6. Congratulations Toby and Gypsie!

Toby, it’s nice to see somebody else from my Mum’s (Moondancer) old group honored. We never met, but I was told tales of the Ĕk-sĕn-trĭks Cluborguild when I was a kid. Of course that’s what inspired me to form the Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild, even if I did spell it wrong.

Gypsie I had the honor of meeting more than once, and we both got to get muddy as extras in “Taking Woodstock.” Hard to believe that was 10 years ago. And of course I knew of Gypsie from the introduction which was repeated in the Steve Jackson Games edition of “Principia Discordia,” the first I saw back in 1994.

Great to have you both part of our weird group!

  7. Congratulations to Gypsie and Toby! Sometimes I feel guilty because I got the award before people who deserve it a lot more than I do. But I’m not giving mine back!

  8. Toby Bruno’s acceptance:

‘It amazes me that the college club I helped to create 36 years ago has continued to grow and evolve. Some humor and eccentricity are necessary in a crazy world. I am humbled to be a founding member and see all the awardees over the decades who have been inducted into the Order of the Pineapple and to be joining them. It reminds me that I should always continue to throw my heart into all that I create without expectation. Thank you guys!’
