White Evangelical Christian Hypocrisy

Donald Trump and Barack Obama.  How you speak about them tells more about you than it does about them.  And you may not like what people are seeing.

If you want to skip my introduction, you can go and read John Pavlovitz’s editorial White Evangelicals, This is Why People Are Through With You.

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s hypocrisy.  If you recall, Jesus of Nazareth didn’t tolerate it either.  And right now, America is rampant with it.

This isn’t just about Donald Trump and Barack Obama.  This isn’t just about politics.  It’s about fundamental Christian values.  To understand where I’m coming from, you need to understand where I came from.

I was raised in church.  For churches, I was a child acolyte, child/teen/adult choir member, janitor, website and business card designer, Bible school worker, assistant production director, production director, young adult group leader, adult Sunday school teacher, communion server, bylaws reviser, and administrative board member.

I am classified as Caucasian, and I voted in the last presidential primary as Republican.

With that in mind, I remember how Jesus loved and helped sinners, but spoke very, very strongly against religious hypocrisy.  Like what is happening in America right now.

Now please read John Pavlovitz’s editorial White Evangelicals, This is Why People Are Through With You.  It says what I would say if John hadn’t already said it very, very well.

  1. Are you a white evangelical Christian who believes the hypocrisy label does not apply to you? Great, speak up! Those who are quiet in the midst of hypocrites get classified as hypocrites too.

  2. I’m about as white as you can imagine. I was raised in an evangelical church and taught evangelical Christianity in home school.

    It’s hypocrisy. Stop it.

    • A white evangelical Christian whom I am very, very close to is very hurt and disappointed at the high level of hypocrisy that’s going on now. I’m not so much hurt as angry.

  3. Your obviously an idiot who understands NOTHING! Obama wants to KILL BABIES! Obama wants AMERICA INVADED! Obama isn’t Christian he’s MUSLIM! Donald Trump FIGHTS ABORTION and BUILDS A WALL! Hes Christian so FORGIVEN! Trump is PROTECTING AMERICA!!!

  4. Most of the Christians that I have talked to that voted for Trump had no illusions over what kind of person he was. They simply felt he was less dangerous to their religious liberty than Hillary was.

  5. Christians are such hypocrits. Was Jesus rich or poor? Was he white or darkskinned? Did he hate rant against people or talk nice?

Listen to Jesus and get rid of Donald Trump!

  6. Some of you may be missing Alden’s point, and the point of the author. This isn’t about politics, it’s about religious hypocrisy. If you pray to support one president because you believe that’s what God wants you to do, you pray for all of them. If you believe God elects one president, he elects them all. It’s about consistency.

  7. I applaud your effort and that of John Pavlovitz! But I’m afraid you’re wasting your efforts. You aren’t talking about reasonable Christians, you’re talking about fanatics.

You Americans elected Donald Trump. Us Brits have Queen Elizabeth II and elected Theresa May. Just saying. Problem isn’t Americans, it’s fanaticism and fear of foreigners (meaning hispanics and non-whites).

And by the way, Barack Obama was not America’s first black president. America hasn’t had a black president. Obama is mulatto, just like me.

  8. There are hypocrites in the Church, but not all of us. Jesus dealt with religious hypocrites too. But Pavlovitz’ rant makes it sound like we’re all hypocrites.

I believe in what the Bible teaches. For all of us:

    1 Timothy 2:1-2:

    1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

    Romans 13:1:

13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

    For our leaders:

    Psalm 2:10-11:

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

  9. I’m not prejudiced! Any American president can come and grope me without permission! Only Barack won’t do it! 😛

  10. “I know good, caring, Christ-like Christians. And I know more self-declared Christians who scream and shout and declare their superiority, and never notice how hypocritical they are. And there just aren’t enough reasonable voices drowning them out. Most rational people ‘want nothing to do with you any longer, and here’s why: They see your hypocrisy, your inconsistency, your incredibly selective mercy, and your thinly veiled supremacy.'” –Jane Wagner
