Children: Protect Them or Prepare Them?

parenting_america_europe_sObviously, protecting children from danger and preparing them for life are both important. But America has gotten increasingly out of balance. The overly protected are the under prepared.

Many people don’t know that more 18-year-olds are abducted in America now than 8-year-olds. Boys and girls who are overprotected do not magically learn how to take care of themselves the day they turn 18.

This video contrasts modern day America and Europe. Perhaps American parents should stop and think about why the motto for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts is “Be Prepared,” not “Be Protected.”

Note that the combined experience of The Loveshade Family includes raising, teaching and tutoring children and studying child psychology.  In addition to the above mottos, the motto of the Discordian Shamlicht Kids Club is “Be Prepared for Anything” which is actually the intent of the Boy Scouts’ original motto according to its founders.

Donald Trump Sees Women as Sex Objects: So What?

Some of Donald Trump’s most prominent supporters are now backing away because of a 10-year-old tape in which he jokes about kissing women without asking and grabbing their genitals.  Why?  Haven’t they been paying attention?

The three-time married Donald Trump had an affair with his then future-second wife while married to his first, and impregnated her.  He’s bragged about his womanizing in both speech and writing.

In addition, he promised to water-board terrorist suspects (which could include women) and do “more than that” even if it meant violating international treaties against torture.  He promised to bomb fighters in Syria and “take our their families,” killing innocents including women and children in acts which could well be treated as war crimes, and then take their oil and sell it.

Then he wanted to violate the Constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion by barring all Muslims (including women) from coming to America.

His primary campaign slogan is “Make America Great Again,” which literally means he is saying that America, which certainly includes women, is not a great nation.  (If you don’t believe that’s what it means, ask an English teacher.)

What happened with his continuing statements that were so outrageous they could be considered increasingly Anti-American?  His popularity in America increased.

Now a 10-year-old tape of him making crude comments about women to another guy surfaces.  So what?  These are the same sort of comments probably millions of American men say to other American men when there aren’t any women around.  But suddenly many of his supporters are shocked at Donald Trump’s morality in regard to women.

Why?  Haven’t they been paying attention?

Go Topless Day is August 28

Painting of Princess Unicornia by Gypsie Skripto. This had to be censored to be posted on wikia.com so this can show how silly censorship is.

Why can men go topless and women can’t? Should we not allow babies and toddlers to see breasts? If they’re older are they too old?

GoTopless Day is Aug. 28 this year.  It’s always on the Sunday nearest Women’s Equality Day when women got the right to vote for gender equality.

Women can go topless (or with their nipples covered, usually with fake nipples, if they’re marching in a prudish area), and men can wear bikini tops and bras.  To find out if it’s happening near you, check here.

Brother and Sister Plan to Have a Baby Together

‘I’m going to have a baby with my sister, and we couldn’t be more excited.’

Chalk that headline up as another one that’s not quite what you might think it is but gets attention.

“Funnily enough, there’s actually nothing remotely incestuous about my sister and I planning to have a baby together,” said Australian Samuel Leighton-Dore.  Samuel identifies as gay, and he and his partner Bradley Tennant wanted to have a child with both of their genes.  As science isn’t yet quite up to converting sperm into eggs, Samuel’s sister Bronte is providing the egg.  They plan to have someone else be the surrogate mother.

In spite of the planned non-incestual arrangement, this is already stirring up controversy not only about incest but about the option of adoption.  While we aren’t experts on Australian laws on children, biologically it seems Samuel may essentially be adopting his sister’s biological child.

In any case, we wish them and any future children well.

Sex is Like a Cup of Tea

How is having sex like having a cup of tea? If they wanted tea last week, does that mean they want it now? What if they wanted it an hour ago? What if they asked for it when they were awake, but now they’re asleep? Watch this (clean) video to find out.

Here’s How We Can Stop Racism

Jake Estrada

My Facebook friend Jake Estrada posted this on Facebook:

Here’s how we may be able to stop racism, and finally come forward as people. You stop talking about how you are white, black, purple or any other color out there. I stop calling you a white woman or man, you stop calling me a Puerto Rican man. I know you by your name. You know me by mine. We stop referring to other people by their ethnicity, we embrace the fact we are human. Now this may be hard for some to do right away, this may be difficult as we have had centuries of mental training to cling to our racial/ethnic backgrounds. Yet we can start today one day at a time, an embrace our uniqueness as people and fight for a better tomorrow for our children and their children. WE CAN DO THIS.

America is Better than Everybody Else

If you haven’t noticed, we’re moving close to the Fourth of July, the American Independence Day.  While the phrase is rampant all the time, this is especially the time to hear, “America is the greatest country in the world.”

Ever stop to think how that sounds to non-Americans?  (Of course if you aren’t American, you have).  What does it literally mean?  It means Americans are better than everyone else.  In other words, every other country in the world is inferior to America.  It’s an insult to the world.

Do an online search for “Greatest country in the world” and (as of five minutes ago) you’ll see articles either saying America is the greatest or America is not the greatest.  They’ll almost all be about America.

America is a superpower.  Russian President Vladimir Putin recently said America is “probably the only superpower.”  But the “land of the free, home of the brave” is consistently not listed as the greatest in personal freedom, in economic freedom, in freedom of the press, in education level, in medical care, or in having law-abiding citizens (instead it has the highest prison population rate in the world).

But America is the greatest country in the world.  So is Russia.  So is China, and the United Kingdom, and Israel, and Egypt, and Iran and Iraq and every other nation in the world to someone.

If you want to praise America on the 4th of July, by all means do so.  But consider saying, “America is the greatest country in the world–to me.”

Where’s The Blogs?

As of right now, you may notice there’s almost a year gap between blog posts.  Yes, we’re aware of it, and yes, we’re working on it.  We had something of a glitch ($%&!#X!) in doing an update.  It’s in the process of being fixed, so please bear with us while we work to restore the missing posts.

In the meantime, feel free to check out those classic blog posts below

Update 2016 07 14 #2: A goof in our supposed fix didn’t allow any new comments on any posts, even the new ones (old ones often disallow comments to avoid spam buildup). We believe we have the problem fixed. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Beauty is in the Eyes of the Beholder

Lizzie Velasquez was born with an extremely rare medical condition that keeps her body from storing fats. In addition to being severely underweight, she is also blind in one eye. She was cyberbullied but stood up for herself. You can too!

People who are hurting want to hurt others. Don’t do it because it won’t make you feel any better.
