Gay Marriage in America Approved by Supreme Court

In mid 1960s American television, a foreign man kissing an American man on the cheeks, or two American men almost accidentally kissing each other, were standard sitcom laughs. In the late 1960s, Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-in was considered cutting edge partially because of its gay jokes that much of the audience didn’t understand (“You don’t have to be happy to be gay.”)

In the 1970s, the two males Dan Aykroyd and Garrett Morris (playing a woman) kissed on the lips in a bit on the then controversial Saturday Night Live.  In 1981, Love, Sidney starring Tony Randall became the first American television program to center on a homosexual, although Sidney’s sexual preference was so downplayed many viewers didn’t even know the character was gay.

Today, in a split decision the United States Supreme Court declared that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 American states and Washington D.C.

The ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges is likely to be considered one of the most significant decisions on personal rights in Supreme Court history.  National Public Radio’s Nina Totenberg said, “This is probably right up there with Brown v. Board of Education, and Roe v. Wade — if you like it or hate it — and today, Obergefell v. Hodges. This was a historic moment.”

The 5-4 vote largely centered on the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  Many supporters said the amendment, which is primarily known for eliminating slavery and for being cited in Roe v. Wade, guarantees citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws, and thus applies to marriage rights.  Many opponents claimed that the court overstepped its bounds in making a decision on marriage which is traditionally seen as the province of each individual state.

Time will tell if this controversial decision will be hotly debated 40 years later, as is Roe v. Wade, or will simply become a generally accepted part of American history, as is Brown v. Board of Education.

Thanks to Vernon K. Avaritt III for sharing the news of the decision with us.

Opinions of The Loveshade Family

“While I support the decision, I also support the idea of marriage not being defined or controlled by the federal government.  Personally, I’d like it to go back to the ‘old days’ and move it outside of government jurisdiction altogether, except for consensual contracts for such issues as custody of children, decisions of health care, and distribution of property.

In any case, if no one has yet resurrected the call for a constitutional amendment defining marriage as strictly one-man, one-woman in order to overrule this decision, I can guarantee it will happen very soon.  Ironically, many if not most of those who hold to that standard quote the Bible which describes many of the greatest biblical patriarchs as being polygamists.”  –Alden Loveshade

“I’ve said for years, ‘don’t make laws against love.’  You should be able to marry anyone you want.  This is a fantastic decision!” –Lorien Loveshade

“Maybe America is finally getting it together.  But I doubt it.  Just wait for the calls for Biblical marriage.  When they come, here’s what you tell those who support Biblical marriage.  According to the Bible, God’s perfect plan is for a man to produce children through sex with his sister (Adam and Eve); marry many woman (Abraham, Israel, David, Solomon, Jonah, etc.); marry his half sister (Abraham and Sarah); and to force young girls to marry the rapist who stole their virginity (Deuteronomy 22:28-29).” –Reverend Loveshade

Things have certainly changed and for the better. People can marry who they want and that’s a good thing.

  2. Pet Girl says:

That’s terrific! Let people marry who they want!

  3. Vernon King Avaritt says:

This is fantastic but there will always be people who are against the LGBT community. There are still 13% who are against mixed marriages. There is a judge in Alabama who vowed to actively oppose gay marriages and he said not to allow gay marriages in Alabama.

Many of these people hate the LBGT community more than they hate Jews and Muslims and it is okay because the Bible says so. There are people who will always hate LGBT’s. God help them

Scott Walker is pushing for a constitutional amendment that defines mariage as a union between one man and one woman.

Orthodox Jews protested a Gay Pride parade in NY. They didn’t want to go there themselves afraid of what they might see; so they paid some Mexican labourers to protest in their place. They dressed the Mexicans in Tallit (Jewish prayer shawl) and most of them wore hats. One of them wore Jewish hair and a Chassidic hat. I don’t know if they made the remaining Mexicans wear Yarmulkes but I think they did. I have associated with Orthodox Jews and they are a stickler for tradition; especially if people are representing them. I wish you could see the picture it was hilarious; at least it was to me.

They were going to have a Gay Pride Parade in Israel until Orthodox Jews, Muslims, and Fundamentalist Christians got together and stopped them. It was the first time that Muslims and Jews ever agreed on anything in Israel. Shalom Alechem

This is a great decision for love!

Entire Tennessee county clerks office quits over same sex marriage laws. They did it because it conflicted with their beliefs.

  10. Vernon King Avaritt says:

Some people are so against gay marriage that they will do anything to stop it. One pundit likened it to world war 3. These people are as serious as a heart attack. I am really concerned over the amount of hate being spewed out. I am 99% wrong but I am afraid that someone gay might get shot by zealots. I am keeping track of this and I will post them here.
Article: Texas pastor threatens to set himself on fire if Gay Marriage passes

I couldn’t find an article of him setting himself on fire. Oh well. I’m glad he didn’t go through with it but I’m glad gay marriage passed even more.

  11. Vernon King Avaritt says:

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback issues Executive Order allowing Churches, Businesses to discriminate against LGBT people on religious grounds. Pastors want to make a law allowing businesses to discriminate on religious grounds. Then they will be able to use religious grounds to discriminate against other groups; Blacks, Muslims, Jews, Mexicans and others on religious grounds.

    Here’s the article

  12. Vernon King Avaritt says:

There is a South Carolina man who owns Piggy Park and he refuses to serve blacks or let blacks sit in his restaurant but he will take their money if they order out. Nice guy huh. Just kidding! This case was settled in the Supreme Court in 1969.

What this means is that you are not allowed to discriminate against anybody if even on religious grounds; You cannot discriminate against blacks the LGBT community, jews, dragons (I hate them), Muslims, Buddhists or anyone else. This battle was fought long ago and won by us in the Supreme Court.

It is a slippery slope that could lead anywhere, even to people being allowed to marry their own animals.

Romans 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Ben Carson joins Pastor who advocates death penalty for LGBT community. These people are more and more extreme

    • Christian Andy says:

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

But God will forgive all your sins if you accept him as your Lord and savior and repent of sin.
