What do the Church of the SubGenius X-Day, a joint Pagan coven esbat with nudists and Discordians including Shamlicht Kids Club, a supposed reunion of the Early Church of the SubGenius, and a video by Rev. Peas Francis Flanagan have in common?  They all helped inspire The Gathering at The Grove!

About 60 men, women, teenagers and children came to the private event The Grove Gathering in July 2017 and had a great time! There was singing, dancing, nude body painting, pagan workshops, games including the Cloved Lemon Kissing Game, and lots more. It may become an annual event!

Pope Hilde started the article, she’s a much better journalist than me. I just added to it.

  2. I would like to clarify than an event was already scheduled for part of that weekend in that location, The Grove. The other inspirations may have led to the expansion of The Gathering at The Grove, which it was named in retrospect.

  3. We’d like to clarify that, while this was a family event, not everything that occurred there was family oriented. The same can, of course, typically be said of what happens in your own family home. But participants said it was an event where people could feel much freer to be themselves than in their everyday life.

It was a wonderful happening, and people could feel free to be themselves. It is sad that in America now you almost have to retreat to a private place to be yourself. I believe for The Grove Gathering to work again, it needs to be kept private.

    • Pope Hilde says:

There are, of course, different standards for what is considered “family.” For example, while family nudism is accepted by some people in many parts of the world, others would want it forbidden.

  4. TawTew the Naturally Perfumed says:

It was indeed a wonderful event. We’ve had many joint esbats and sabbats with our sister coven, but this one was indeed special. Our visitors from California, Texas, and Illinois helped make it that way. I do hope we can do this again, although a little cooler time of the year might work better for some folks. It is hard, though, with people from areas with different school schedules and weather. But this was indeed a lot of fun, and great family get-together that was in many ways a reunion in itself.

  5. I am very glad that Mindy and I got to share this with all of you. Mindy’s parents helped set up although there were only there the first night as it’s really not their thing. But my brother! He’s been shy for years. But being a part of The Gathering really helped him open up. I was so happy to see that happen. He talked about it and the certain young lady he got close to all the way home. I believe it’s helped him build up his confidence. Blessed be!

    • Pet Girl says:

Your brother seemed shy at first, but that didn’t last long! I think his summer romance revived him and revved him up! 😛

    • Mindy Yuko says:

My parents weren’t too sure about the whole thing, so they pretty much missed it. But I had a wonderful time! And Lorien’s brother totally came out of his shell! I hope we do it again!

  6. Pet Girl says:

The Gathering was super! There weren’t as many performers as at X-Day, but both were great. We had SubGenii, Discordians, Pagans, Wiccans, and Nudists all at the same place, same time! Super!

  7. Pope Hilde says:

I was very happy to start the article on The Grove Gathering with information that those who attended gave to me. Miley Spears deserves credit for the lion’s share of the article. I don’t get to many events these days, but this one sounded like it would have been well worth it.

You got it going. It’s hard for me to be straight journalist. Even when I try writing straight, I tend to make it into a spork!

  9. I didn’t even know about this until after it was over. One of the disadvantages of you all living on the other side of the pond, I suppose. Sounds like a great event. If me and my little family ever get back to Texas, we’d love to go to something like this. Even if my kids have never felt a Texas summer. Might be good for them to learn what sunshine is.

  10. Rev. Bootie says:

Call it what it really was. The Grope Gathering. I want pictures.

  11. You f***in bitches can ride my d***. You’re full of dog s*** and damn better not touch my s***. My DMCA demands will wipe this and your other s*** off the Internet! So f*** off birtches!

  12. JohannaX says:

Nice article, but one thing left out. Nothing about it being the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. I thought that was a main inspiration.
