Christianity Today and Donald Trump

Donald Trump holding the Bible (image believed to be in the public domain).

The editor of Christianity Today, a evangelical Christian periodical started by Billy Graham, has written an editorial entitled “Trump Should Be Removed from Office. ” Editor in Chief Mark Galli called an impeachable political action of President Trump “profoundly immoral.”

This has sent shock waves through evangelical Christianity and beyond. Some will, of course, try to turn this into a partisan issue, but I don’t believe it is. For one thing, Billy Graham’s son Franklin Graham has been a very strong supporter of the Republican Donald Trump. For another, Christianity Today, which generally avoids divisive political issues, also had an editorial favoring the removal of Democratic President Bill Clinton during his time of facing impeachment.

Another important factor is that the article doesn’t sound like a political tirade, it sounds like a reasoned opinion based on Christian values that does not condemn the person. It says, “We love and pray for our president, as we love and pray for leaders (as well as ordinary citizens) on both sides of the political aisle.”  That, by the way, is what Jesus of Nazareth taught his followers to do.

My personal hope is that this will help Christians who have been hesitant or even afraid of going against the pro-Trump tide to assert and stand by their beliefs.

  1. Dr. Sinister Craven says:

Christians, Jews, Muslims, Pagans, everyone needs to realize. We don’t need Donald Trump.

  2. Chrsitian Andy says:

That is, of course, one magazine and doesn’t represent the whole of Christiandom. Christians have different opinions on politics.

    We should remember this:

    Mark 12: 30-31
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

  3. TawTew the Naturally Perfumed says:

It’s sad, really. Donald Trump is in over his head. If he could just resign, it could make it easier for him and the country.

  4. Pet Girl says:

Come grope me without permission Donald! 😛

  5. Dolphin Blue says:

I kinda think maybe he’s just confused. He could get help and find another job.

  6. Dharma says:

It’s hard to know what to believe or who to trust anymore.

  7. Robert Lloyd says:

The editor of Christianity Today (from what I have heard only as I do not read the magazine), is a left wing individual and something Billy Graham would not have supported. I am a Trump-er and believe he is the best president we have had since… well, maybe he is the best period. And he has done such outstanding work despite 95% of the major media biased always negative and trying their best to turn America and the world against him. I believe in the future, heads of business should be strongly considered for running for POTUS. Not all heads of course.

    • Rev. Bootie says:

You are absoltely right. Donald Trump is protecting us from foreign invaders from Mexico, Muslim Nations, Africa, Ukraine, Asia, everywhere. The Bible says sin shall fall to the third and fourth generation. If they haven’t been Americans for at least three or four generations, they should pack up and go home and leave us true Americans alone.

      VOTE DONALD TRUMP IN 2020!!!

      • Abelard d'Pésni says:

Say, you know Donald Trump’s grandparents on his father side were immigrants, and his mother was an immigrant, so that would mean kicking Donald Trump out of America?

  8. Dr. Sinister Craven says:

I don’t know how people can think Donald Trump is God’s man. Which God?

  9. Larry K says:

Donald Trump is God’s man! Jim Baker has explainked that many times you’d know if you watched his show. All your atheist rants won’t change that.

  10. It seems another Christian magazine has a big controversy involving Donald Trump. This involves The Christian Post:

  11. Mad Michael says:

This woman is a h**o! You Snowflakes don’t want The Wall to keep rapist drug dealing illegal foreigners out of America? If they come in this can happen.
